Description

Black with red dot cloth interior, 5 speed manual, very good exterior/ interior condition, and recently sorted mechanically. 143K miles with engine top end rebuild, piston rings, and timing chain service completed at 115K. This is a first-year VR6 Corrado with light period-correct modifications including Neuspeed sway bars, poly bushings, P-Flo intake, Momo wheel and shift knob, Weitec springs, and AutoTech exhaust. It really hauls, and sounds great doing it. If the Corrado is your dream car, as it is mine, youll appreciate this one because its a survivor that hasnt been wrecked, swapped, or overly modded.
It was the previous owners pride and joy, he owned it since the early 2000s, and then stored it for 12 years (on a battery tender, starting it up several times a year). I purchased it in January and did all the necessary work to get it running well:
Oil pan, oil pump, oil cooler, and hoses replaced. Running Castrol Edge 5W40 synthetic, keeps oil temps below 240 even during spirited driving
Serpentine belt and passenger-side water pump replaced. The rest of the cooling system including the crack pipe was inspected and in good shape. Coolant flush with correct blue coolant. No leaks. Coolant temp stays in the lower third of the gauge
EBC brake pads, slotted rotors, and StopTech stainless lines. This Corrado stops fast with great pedal feel and no noises
All four wheel bearings and both emergency brake cables replaced
Full tune up with Bosch plugs, new spark plug wires, distributor cap and correct push-on rotor
Power steering and transmission fluids flushed as well
New Hankook Ventus V2 high performance all season tires on original BBS wheels
Sourced and installed European (e-code) headlights which are vastly better than the DOT-spec lights this Corrado came with. Refurbished fog lights with new lenses also installed. Laminex protective film on headlights and fog lights
Fixed the drivers door handle with Phenix Engineering billet aluminum striker pin, good for many opens now
Basically, the hard stuff has been done. This VR6 Corrado can be driven and enjoyed right now, as the new owner refines it and puts their stamp on it. Both power windows and the sunroof work, and the rear spoiler raises and lowers as it should (up at 45 mph, down at rest).
Here are the cons the new owner should be aware of:
The A/C lost its refrigerant during storage, so it will need to be converted to R134
The ABS light works as it should (on for a few seconds on startup, then off), and all the ABS components are visually in good condition, but I cant get the system to engage on hard braking. A new ABS module could be needed, or you could look into ABS deletion or upgrade conversions which many Corrado owners do
There is no radio head unit, so my son and I made a radio delete plate for the dash
The power mirrors do not work. I have not tried the seat heaters
I have the under-dash panels but they are not currently installed. They require special VW clips which can be ordered on eBay
There is a 1/4 inch hole in the drivers seat fabric
Asking $8,900. If at or near asking price, the following parts will be included for the new owner to continue my progress:
New reproduction turn signal lenses with Laminex protective film
Phenix Engineering front control arm bushings, shifter bushings, window rollers, and passenger door striker
Neuspeed front strut brace to match other Neuspeed period mods
New black leather shifter boot from Redline Goods
Original steering wheel, headlights, VW badge, and a complete Corrado glovebox
Spare bulbs, VW touch up paint, and misc Corrado small parts
Bentley repair manual, VW electrical wiring diagrams, and all records for work Ive had done

Ive learned a lot about Corrados this year, but the biggest thing is that good ones are hard to find. This Corrado SLC is a good one, and its ready for a new home.
